What is Respondus LockDown Browser?
Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) is a university-approved software that integrates with the Canvas learning management system (LMS). It locks down the browser environment students use during a quiz or exam, increasing security and reducing academic dishonesty.
What does LockDown Browser restrict?
When students use LockDown Browser to take a quiz, the following features are in effect:
- The browser toolbar displays only Forward, Back, Refresh, and Stop buttons
- Quizzes are displayed in full screen and cannot be minimized, resized, or exited until submitted for grading
- Printing, key combinations, screen grabs, function keys, and right-click menus are disabled
- The address bar is not visible; students can only access websites linked within quiz questions
- The Start button, system tray, and menu bars are not displayed
- Email, messaging, word processing, and network monitoring applications are blocked
Is my personal data safe?
University administrators do not have access to any information stored on a student's personal computer when using LockDown Browser. This software requires login with NinerNET credentials and dual authentication (DUO). All data is protected by UNC Charlotte's secure technology systems and a contractual agreement requiring the vendor to protect any data they collect.

How do I access LockDown Browser?
LockDown Browser is installed in many student computer labs on campus. If you are at home or in a lab where it is not installed, downloading it takes only a few minutes.
