Google Gemini with Data Protection is a more secure campus-wide alternative to consumer-oriented generative AI services, including the consumer version of Gemini.
- It protects your identity. And only uses it to determine if you are eligible to access the tool.
- Google cannot see your chats and does not use your chat data for training its AI.
- Chat data is encrypted.
- Google Gemini saves your recent chats so that you can view and manage your chat history. See the Find & manage your recent chats in Gemini Apps Google support page for more information.
- If you turn off your activity history, It only saves your chat history for 72 hours (prompts and responses) for troubleshooting purposes.
- If you want to save your chats, you can export the conversation or copy and paste it into a document.
Google provides many different kinds of licensing for Gemini. We are using Google Workspace for Education and the Gemini add-on service. Terms and conditions and privacy notices for other products do not apply. Google states in their FAQ: "Terms of service exception for Workspace for Education users without a Gemini for Google Workspace license: Data from these users' Gemini activity isn't used for model improvements and isn't reviewed by human reviewers."
