How do I find information about my computer in Windows 11 like computer name?

The two methods below describe how to gather relevant hardware and operating system information on university computers running Windows 11:


Method One

  1. On the Windows taskbar, find and click on the 'up' arrow icon to Show hidden icons​​​​​​.

  2. Find and click on the Charlotte (BGInfo) icon.

  3. The window for the BGInfo application will appear, containing information about the computer's hardware and operating system.

Method Two

  1. Find the search box on the Windows taskbar, type 'about,' and press Enter.

  2. Open the 'About your PC' application on the search results screen.

  3. The About application screen will display information about the computer's hardware and operating system. The computer name can be found on the Device name line under the Device specifications section.

Note: The procedure above may NOT be available on all university computers. Some computer lab machines and others may have restrictions preventing access to the About application.
