- Printers should be automatically available to faculty/staff working in the department.
- Standard process: when an employee starts work, they should be automatically added to a department group that will give them access to the department's networked printers. Employees can choose the printer when they go to print or set the appropriate default printer. The printer names are located on the physical device.
- If the standard process does not work, try adding the printer manually:
- To manually add the Printer to a Windows Computer
- Open up Printers & Scanners within Windows setting
- Select the desired printer
- Select Add Device so the appropriate printer driver can be installed. (It may take ~2 minutes)
- Once added, you will see the printer in the print dialog box of the application.
- To manually add the Printer to a Mac computer
- Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.
- Click Printers & Scanners in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
- Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax
- Select your printer from the list, then click Add.
- If the printer is not available, submit this form to OneIT Service Desk.
- Anyone who needs access to a printer and is not part of the department will need to contact the OneIT Service Desk to obtain access to the printer.
- Users will need to choose the printer the first time they go to print.
NOTE: On December 23rd, the Upits01 print server will be retired. If a printer was mapped directly to this print server, that printer mapping will break. See information below. If you think you are affected, the easiest course of action is to submit
this form to OneIT Service Desk. A technician will work with you to determine the impact and solution.
Steps to take if you are connected to a printer on the retiring server:
- If you see a printer that has a name that includes "on upitsprint01" that drive mapping will more than likely break.
- Copy the department name of the printer so that you can find it in the printer list
- Remove the printer with "upitsprint01" in the name
- Try to print and see if a printer with the same department name is available in the printer drop down list:
- if yes decide whether or not to set it as the default printer.
- If no, try to manually add a new printer following the instructions in the top section of this article above
- If there is no printer with the same name, submit this form to the OneIT Service Desk.
