Canvas uses two different quiz types. Check with your instructor to see which format your exam will use. If you are unsure, try the New Quizzes course first, as The University is actively transitioning to this newer format.

Step 2: Self-Enroll in a Practice Course

Click the appropriate link below to self-enroll in a practice course. These environments let you test your computer setup and troubleshoot technical issues in a low-stakes environment:

Step 3: Complete the Practice Activities

Once enrolled, access the sample quizzes within the course to practice:

  1. Download and Install: Install the LockDown Browser application onto your device if you haven't already.

  2. Launch the Browser: Practice launching the environment. (Note: This happens automatically for New Quizzes but must be done manually for Classic Quizzes).

  3. Navigate the Interface: Familiarize yourself with the secure testing environment and ensure your webcam or audio setup works properly if required.

  • Low-Stakes Environment: These practice courses do not impact your grades. They are strictly designed for testing your device compatibility and resolving technical bugs before a high-stakes exam.
