How do I update the Canvas syllabus page to link directly to my class's syllabus page in the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System?

Background

The Syllabus page in Canvas contains a fixed link to the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System. 

This link supports the university's public syllabus policy that UNC Charlotte will maintain a publicly accessible and searchable online platform for course syllabi.

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Submit your syllabus to the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System online platform following your department's guidance.

2. Linking to your syllabus: you may either leave the link as is, which will take students to UNC Charlotte Syllabus System where they can search and find your syllabus OR you can provide a direct link to your syllabus in the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System.

To link directly to your syllabus in the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System, replace the existing URL on the syllabus page with a direct link to your syllabus.
NOTE: If you attempt to delete the link to the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System without replacing it with a link to your own syllabus in that system, the original link to the system will return upon saving or refreshing the page.


3. Adding any additional course policies, procedures, or information on the Canvas Syllabus page: you can manually add information for your students below the header, "Additional Course Information".

 

Cross-Listed and Combined Courses

If your course is cross-listed/combined with multiple section numbers, you will need to upload a separate syllabus to the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System for each section number, then add a corresponding link for each section on the Canvas Syllabus page.

1. Submit a syllabus to the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System for each individual section number associated with your cross-listed course, following your department's guidance.

2. On the Canvas Syllabus page, add a direct link to each section's syllabus in the UNC Charlotte Syllabus System, clearly labeled by section number so students can identify the correct link for their section.

When Copying or Importing Previous Canvas Courses

When you import or copy a previously used Canvas Course that already had a Syllabus page, Canvas will now add the university-compliant template described above.  All of your previous content from the old course’s Canvas Syllabus page will be found under “Additional Course Information”.
