What is the Windows patching cycle for University computers?

  1. University computers get Microsoft patches once a month.
  2. These patches fix security vulnerabilities.
  3. ITS manages the patching of these computers.
  4. Microsoft releases security patches the 2nd Tuesday of every month
  5. ITS reviews and tests the patches and then releases them to the campus community the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

Info

If you are on the wired or the wireless network, the patches will download automatically to your university-owned computer. Once downloaded, you will be prompted to install the patches. This requires a reboot.
  1. You will receive a pop-up notice in the bottom right system tray that updates are available to install and be prompted to install updates.
  2. You are encouraged to install the updates right away; if you wait, the updates will install automatically no more than 56 hours after they have been released.
  3. Install the updates.
  4. Reboot your computer.
