What services will OneIT provide when moving offices?

With the exception of the Belk College of Business IT staff, OneIT does not provide moving services.  BCOB staff should contact Tim Carmichael, Executive Director of IT and Facility Operations, twcarmic@uncc.edu. Other customers should contact Facilities Management for information on furniture and equipment moves.

  • Individuals can usually move the hardware themselves and set it back up. If assistance is desired, contact the Service Desk.
  • Departmental and Lab moves - these tend to involve multiple people and may have a project coordinator. The Coordinator should contact the appropriate IT Director regarding details.
    • We will need to know the date(s) of the move and the locations.
    • We will need to know the number of people and devices being moved
    • We will need to know if furniture movers are involved; if yes, we will ask that they move the computers and set them up; we can be available for troubleshooting. If movers are not being engaged and given enough notice, technicians may be available to help.
  • For the most part, once equipment is in the new location; customers are encouraged to connect their own computers to the network. Individual college IT staff may handle requests differently.
  • If problems are encountered or customers do not feel comfortable attempting to set up computer equipment, OneIT Desktop Support technicians will assist - requests should be submitted to the OneIT Service Desk.

During large department moves, OneIT Desktop Support technicians will be on hand to assist with setup questions.
