How do I use proctoring for my Final Exams?

If you are considering using Respondus Monitor for proctoring your final exams, here are six tips to consider now, especially if you have never used this software before

  1. Learn How to Use Respondus Monitor Well Before the Start of Finals
    1. Daily Training Webinars with Live Q&A – These 45-minute trainings are the best way for instructors to learn how to use Respondus Monitor for online proctoring. Each session is followed by an extended Q/A period where questions are answered live. Register online now
    2. UNC Charlotte’s FAQs and Help Guides
  2. Make Sure Every Student Has the Right Equipment - Ask your students if they have the appropriate computer, webcam, and Internet access
  3. Create a Practice Exam – Have students take a practice exam with Respondus Monitor to ensure their computer, webcam, and Internet are working properly. Allow students more than one attempt on the quiz so they can try the practice exam whenever their device or networking environment changes
  4. Create Alternative Assessments that Are Not Proctored - Some students may not be able to use the proctoring software for a variety of reasons (equipment, access, etc.), which may require they demonstrate learning in a different way: FAQ of Resources; CTL Video On Alternative Assessments
  5. Increase the Exam Window of Time When Possible - Rather than make it a synchronous start and finish time for all students at the same time, consider giving students an extended window of time to do the exam: for example, use your entire final exam period of 2 ½ hours for students to start and finish a 60-minute test at any time during that window. The benefit is that students are more likely to have a more successful experience and to troubleshoot any technical issue. Make it flexible for your students
  6. Know How to Get Help for Your Students - 24/7 Live Chat – Students can access built-in troubleshooting and live chat from within Respondus Monitor if they encounter a technical problem. You can find more resources for students, including how to access Live Chat here
