Are there fees associated with processing credit cards?

 
  1. Yes. All payment card transactions are assessed fees for processing.  
  2. The fees are comprised of charges levied by the vendor (bank) for processing, interchange, and switch fees, along with pass-through fees levied by the Card Associations and their networks or the proprietary card company. 

    The rate of each transaction varies and depends upon a number of factors, such as the bank that issues the card, if that bank is national or international, the card type (gold, silver, platinum, etc.), as well as the rewards associated with the card.

  3. Debit cards, as well as electronic check transactions, also carry associated fees.
