How will Gmail search work when everyone has a uncc.edu and a charlotte.edu email address?

  1. According to this Google blog post, Gmail will search for all email addresses associated with a Google account;
  2. The Google account is the username@charlotte.edu account (you see this in the top right of your browser next to the Charlotte logo)
    • When you search for the account, the directory will return @charlotte.edu addresses.
    • If you use a personal contact list, you may still see @uncc.ecu addresses returned in a search.
  3. When using the Search function in Gmail:
    • The simple search looks for the email address anywhere in the message

    • If you click the right side grid it will expand the search box and provide more advanced options.

    • When using the advanced search you can limit search criteria to the To and From fields; this may yield better results then the simple search.
  4. Best practice: Be intentional and select the @charlotte.edu address when sending email to University accounts.
    • As you more regularly search for and send to @charlotte.edu addresses, these addresses will appear higher in the search results.
