How do I add an @uncc.edu or @charlotte.edu address as a send as address in Gmail?

Tags gmail

As part of the process to add @charlotte.edu addresses to University email accounts, your default send as address will be changed to an @charlotte.edu address.

  • If you do not have an email alias, the default send as will be username@charlotte.edu.
    • You username@uncc.edu may be removed from your send as list. If you need to be able to send from your username@uncc.edu, follow the steps below for your username@uncc.edu address.
  • If you have an email alias (your.alias@uncc.edu), the corresponding your.alias@charlotte.edu will become your default send as address.
    • In the above scenario, your username@charlotte.edu address will not automatically be added as a possible send as address.  If you need to be able to send from your username@charlotte.edu address, follow the below steps.

  1. While in Gmail, click the gear icon then See all settings
    Gmail Settings
  2. Click on the Accounts tab
  3. In the Send mail as: section, click Add another email address
  4. In the window that opens, type the address to add (ex. username@charlotte.edu address) in the Email address: field then click Next Step
    Enter username email address

Your name should already show in the Name field.  The Treat as an alias checkbox should remain checked.

  5. You will now see the newly added address (ex. username@charlotte.edu) listed in the Send mail as: section

If you already have your.alias@charlotte.edu as your default send as address, you will not be able to permanently set your username@charlotte.edu address to the default. The default send as address is administratively synced which will overwrite any change you try to make to your default send as address.
