How do I use Microsoft Stream to generate a transcript for an video file?

Microsoft Stream is available through your University Microsoft 365 account.

To generate a transcript for an audio file using Stream:

  1. Log in to your University Microsoft 365 account 
    1. Microsoft 365 can be accessed by going to office365.charlotte.edu and logging in with your @charlotte.edu credentials.
  2. Select Apps from the menu at the left
  3. Select Stream from the list of apps

  4. Stream will open.
  5. Choose the Upload option to upload your video file. (.mp4 format is recommended)
  6. The video will upload to your OneDrive account. If you do not see it listed in Stream immediately, you can open it by going to OneDrive using the menu at the left.
  7. Click on the video thumbnail to open the video for editing.
  8. Select Video Settings > Transcript and Captions.

  9. Click the option to Generate.
    1. Select English as the language.
    2. The transcript/captions will appear when the process is completed.
  10. You may click on the text directly in the caption window to edit as needed.
  11. Use the Download button to download the transcript and caption file.
