How do I prevent a file/folder from syncing with the Dropbox Sync App?

NOTE:  It is important to know what level of data you are handling and where you can store the data, see this FAQ for more details. Up to Level 2 data can be stored in Dropbox cloud storage. Only Level 1 can be stored in Dropbox Sync App. If you have questions about the data levels, please contact your Data Security Officer, Information Security Liaison, or the Information Security Compliance Office.

Levels of data

  1. Do not use the Dropbox Sync App if you do not want to sync any files or folders with your local device
  2. Use Smart Sync (online-only) or Selective Sync to prevent a files/folders from syncing with your local device
