How to Disable Webcam Recording in Respondus Monitor for Select Students

Overview:
When using Canvas Quizzes for exams with Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor (Webcam or Webcam + Screen), you may need to disable webcam recording for specific students due to accessibility or privacy concerns. This can be done by enabling a special setting during quiz setup.

Use Case Example:
You are administering a Canvas exam with Respondus LockDown Browser and webcam proctoring. Two students are testing in the Office of Disability Services (ODS) computer lab, where webcam use is restricted to protect FERPA rights. To comply, you must disable webcam recording only for these students for all Respondus-enabled exams this semester.

Important Notes:

  • This setting must be configured before the exam begins.
  • Students who are exempt from webcam use will need to enter a special password to bypass the webcam requirement.
  • All other students will proceed with webcam monitoring as usual.

Steps to Disable Webcam for Specific Students:

  1. Log into Canvas and open your course, launch Respondus LockDown Browser by clicking on the link in the left-hand navigation menu
