URLs change all the time. If you move something to a new place in the menu, the URL will change. If you no longer need a page and delete it. Then that URL is no longer available. When people click on a link that no longer exists, the page doesn't load. So often we prefer to add a redirect that will forward people from the broken url to the new page.
