Gems are specialized AI assistants you can build in Google Gemini for specific, common tasks. Gems can be trained with specific instructions and knowledge to become a more efficient assistant in performing particular tasks.

To get started with Gems in Gemini:

  1. Access your Gemini account

    • follow this FAQ to ensure you are accessing the University-provided data protected version of Gemini.

  2. Select Explore Gems on the side panel

  3. Explore Gems: try a ‘Premade by Google’ agent. 

  4. To personalize an agent, click on New Gem
    explore and create gems

  5. Add a description, instructions, and knowledge

    • you can upload files or link to websites to create a knowledge library for your gem

    • HINT: Open a separate tab and use Google Gemini to write the instructions for your Gem
