How do I activate my NinerNET account?

All employees and students are required to use Duo multi-factor authentication. Download and install the Duo Mobile app BEFORE starting this process. ONLY SET UP DUO WITH THE MOBILE APP. Do not use a computer for the authentication source (FaceID, Windows Hello or TouchID).
Follow these steps to activate your account:
  1. Download and install the Duo Mobile app from the app store.
  2. Go to ninernet.charlotte.edu
  3. Click on Activate Account

  4. Enter your NinerNET username and birth date
  5. Click Request Verification Code

  6. Select where you want to receive the verification code (text message, alternate email, both)
    NOTE:  If a cell phone number or alternate email address is not available or incorrect, contact the IT Service Desk, 704-687-5500
  7. Click Send Verification Code

  8. Enter the verification code received, click Verify Code

  9. After verification, you will be prompted to create your password
  10. Following the password requirements, type you password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields
  11. After a successful password reset, the NinerNET website will return to the login page and display the success notification at the top.

  12. Click the Manage Account button and enter your username and the password you just created
  13. MAKE SURE THE DUO MOBILE APP IS DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED BEFORE THE NEXT STEP!
  14. You will see the following message - click Get Started

  15. Click Duo Mobile. Only set up Duo with the Duo Mobile or Yubikey option. DO NOT set it up with a computer (Windows Hello, FaceID or TouchID since that will only work at your computer)
  16. Enter the phone number of your mobile phone and click Continue

  17. Click Yes, it's correct to confirm your number
  18. Once downloaded, tap the Use QR code to scan the code you are presented. ONLY do this if you have installed the Duo Mobile app; scanning the QR code without the app will lock your account and you will have to contact the OneIT Service Desk to get it fixed.
