How do faculty and students gain access to educational environments?

Access to the educational environment is granted on a per semester basis and while the environment is backed up, students are encouraged to retain a personal copy of their data outside the cluster.

For a professor to request access for a class follow the procedure below and be sure to provide all of the requested information.  Once the information has been verified accounts will be created for the instructors and students on the designated resource.  Registered student names and email information will be obtained by URC using the class designations.  Access will be available until the end of the course.

For an individual student to obtain access for independent study or an individual class project under the supervision of a faculty member either the student or faculty member should follow the procedure below.  Access will be provided until the end of the current semester unless a longer period is requested and verified by the faculty member.

  • Incomplete information will delay the creation of the class in the EDU environment.
  • TA information must be communicated directly to URC as URC does not receive automated notifications of TA additions or changes.

For a full class request the professors should initiate and provide the details listed below in the text of the ticket.

  •     Class (Full Designation AAAA-BBB-CCC)

  •     Co-instructors name and University email (if any)

  •     Class TAs name and University email

For independent study or a individual class project either the student of faculty member can initiate and provide the detail listed below in the text of the ticket. If the student initiates the request URC will contact the faculty member for verification.

  • Identify that this is an independent study or individual class project request

  • Faculty member name and University email

  • Student name and University email

  • One sentence description of the project

  • Specify Centaurus (Slurm Scheduler) and/or DSBA Hadoop

  • If a professor submits the ticket at least three days before the start of the semester, barring any issues, URC should be able to add the classes before the semester and notify the instructor and TAs via email when the class has been added.

  • In cases where the semester has already started, classes can be added within three days and again, we'll  notify the instructor and TAs via email when the class has been added.
