What's an alternate way for instructors to upload a quiz from Respondus Exam into Canvas?

NOTE:  Make sure you have the most recent version of Respondus. To check for updates, open Respondus, go to Help, then Check for Update. If an update is available, you will be prompted to update. The most current version is Respondus 4.0.8.00 August 1, 2018

Check for Updates

  1. Quizzes created in Respondus 4.0 (Windows software) can be exported as QTI packages. See more resources here.

    QTI Version:  Canvas supports QTI versions 1.2 and 2.1 

  2. Open your created quiz in Respondus using Instructure Canvas as the Current Personality
  3. Within the Edit tab, modify, delete, or add any additional questions as needed

  4. Once all changes have been made, click the Start tab
  5. On the Start tab, in the Current Personality drop-down list, select IMS QTI  
  6. A small Respondus window will be displayed requiring you to click OK to accept conversion of the quiz file
  7. Click OK

  8. The Converting Between LMS Personalities window is displayed
  9. Enter the new name for your quiz file and choose the recommended option to Save As New File to ensure your previous Instructure Canvas quiz file format is unchanged

  10. The new quiz file will now appear within the Edit tab
  11. At the top of the screen, click the Preview + Publish tab

  12. On the left, click the Save QTI XML File link

  13. Choose the options to save the currently open quiz file to QTI XML format to start the download process

    1. For the Select preferences option, choose the Points method (Points as decimal numbers)
    2. For the File Format method, choose QTI XML zip file using IMS Content Packaging 1.1.3 as the type of file you want to perform
    3. Click Save As
  14. Choose a File name for your QTI zipped file
  15. Leave the Save as type as the default, Zipped IMS package (.zip)
  16. Choose the folder to save your QTI zipped file
  17. Click Save

  18. Click OK to accept the zipped package file
  19. Follow the Canvas instructions on importing quizzes into Canvas using QTI packages

  20. When the import is completed, open your Canvas course and preview the assessment
